    At least four Chinese nationals have been abducted by bandits at a mining site located at Ajata Aboki village via Erena Ward of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. During the attack on the mining site on Wednesday morning, three soldiers, seven policemen and six others were reportedly killed by the bandits while others sustained varying degrees of injuries according to the co-convener, Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger State, Sani Abubakar Yusuf Koki. Emmanuel Osodeke, president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has turned down an intervention fund by Brekete Family, a reality television and radio programme focusing on human rights issues, to end the strike. ASUU had on February 14 declared a one-month warning strike to protest the non-implementation of its demands by the federal government. But on March 14, the union extended the action by eight weeks, citing the government’s failure to fully address its demands. The union thereafter extended the strike by another 12 weeks. Oyeleke said the extension is aimed at giving the government more time to satisfactorily resolve the issues. There have been concerns over the lingering strike with many prominent figures calling ASUU and the government to address the issue. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Sunday, May 29, 2022, arrested former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari. Yari, according to multiple reports, was arrested for his involvement in the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris‘ N80 billion scandal. Newsrand has reported that the AGF under criminal investigation, Idris, has been in the EFCC custody since May 16 facing investigators over allegations of corruption to the tune of N80 billion. Investigators are working with the lead that he allegedly conspired with others to steal public funds which, by his role, he was meant to safeguard. One of his suspected accomplices is Yari, who was arrested today, EFCC sources confirmed. According to the sources, suspicious transactions between Idris and Yari were “in the area of 20 billion Naira”.

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has sent Osinachi’s husband, Peter Nwachukwu to Kuje prison. Justice N.K. Nwosu-Iheme, the presiding judge gave the order after he pleaded not guilty to 23 counts bordering on domestic violence and homicide, among others.
