Awoism  is the term coined for  Obafemi Awolowo ’s idea of progressive politics targeted at producing practical social progress. Awoism postulates that man is the sole  dynamic  in nature and that sound education is his birth right. The notion of innate  racial intellectual superiority  or natural advantage in mastery is rejected. A  renowned Kenyan legal scholar, Professor Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba, believes that President Muhammadu Buhari is alone in the fight against corruption in Nigeria, as many high-profile public office holders and officials are corrupt. There are two schools on thought on the influence of Nyerere's political and social philosophies. The first argues that Nyerere's efforts shortchanged Tanzania's progress by wasting resources and marginalizing the rural sector, that their results created an inept bureaucracy, and that his utopian ideals actually left the country poorer than more pragmatic leadership would have. The second focuses on the successes of Nyerere's social welfare initiatives, which included the creation of health and educational institutions and implemented a framework for a more egalitarian wealth redistribution. Political stability and the achievement of a strong sense of national unity, despite the various ethnic groups coexisting in the country, are undeniable successes of the Nyerere era.
